JERUSALEM (JPS) — Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Ramallah headquarters was allowed by the Israel Defense Force to bring in huge quantities of food, toiletries, medications and other supplies during the IDF's siege of the building, according to Israel Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Maj. Gen. Amos Gilad.

Gilad presented an itemized list of 70 food-related items the IDF approved for entry into the compound from March 30 to April 25 to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The list includes 13,200 pita breads, 420 cans of hummus, 423 cans of tuna, 100 kg. of potatoes and rice, soup mix, spices, fruits and vegetables, cheeses, 720 bottles of Coca-Cola and one box of corn flakes.

Gilad brought the information to deflect criticism that the IDF had tried to starve out Arafat and others in the compound.
