Group for Jewish alcoholics marks its 25th anniversary

new york (jta) | A group battling alcoholism and drug addiction among Jews is marking its 25th anniversary.

JACS, or Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons and Significant Others, will honor Rabbi Abraham Twerski, Rabbi Barry Woolf, Audrey Waxman and David Buchholz at a New York City reception March 21.

The reception is called “Our Cup Runneth Over.”

Recipes sought for best chicken soup

new york (jta) | Amateur cooks age 18 and over are invited to submit their original chicken soup recipes for a chance to win a trip for two to Israel, courtesy of the National Jewish Outreach Program, sponsors of Shabbat Across America.

Five finalists will be selected under the direction of chef Jeff Nathan, the executive chef of New York’s Abigael’s, where they will compete in a Feb. 24, cook-off. For contest rules, go to, call (888) SHABBAT, or e-mail [email protected]. The deadline is Feb. 2.
