Jewish music fest schedule

The Jewish Music Festival, hosted by the Berkeley Richmond Jewish Community Center from March 4 to 26, has virtually something for everyone. The full schedule is as follows:

Opening Night

New Orleans Klezmer Allstars. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at First Congregational Church, Oakland.

“I-Tal-Ya.” Italian Jewish music. 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 5 at Caffe Venezia, Berkeley.

“Bagels and Bongos.” Septeto Rodriguez. Cuban sounds and klezmer. 8 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at First Congregational Church, Oakland. Also 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at Little Fox Theatre, Redwood City.

“Traditions and Transformations.” Liturgical singing with cantors Alberto Mizrahi and Jack Mendelson. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at Temple Sinai, Oakland.

“Jewish Fringes.” Bay Area composers of new music: Paul Dresher, Daniel David Feinsmith, Amy X Neuburg and John Schott. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16 at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Yair Dalal. Israeli musician, with Marin’s Ali Akbar College of Music; Purim party to follow. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, San Rafael.

“From Istanbul to Jerusalem.” Sephardic music from Turkey. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman. Yiddish songwriter, singer and poet, with Yiddish singer Theresa Tova. 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Berkeley Richmond Jewish Community Center, Berkeley.

“Yiddish Matters.” Conversation with Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman and her son, Itzik Gottesman, associate editor of the Yiddish Forward, with Harvey Varga, Bay Area Yiddishist. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.

“Three Yiddish Divas.” With Adrienne Cooper, Theresa Tova and Joanne Borts. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at JCCSF.

“Community Music Day.” Family concert with Ira Levin, instrument petting zoo, local performance artists. Hosted by Josh Kornbluth. 12 p.m. Sunday, March 26 at BRJCC.
