Correspondent | June 13, 2008 Synagogues join to ‘stop torture’ To mark Torture Awareness Month, Rabbis for Human Rights North America has launched Banners Across America, a campaign to get synagogues to hang banners decrying torture. The banners read “Honor the Image of God: Stop Torture Now.” Local synagogues participating include: Or Hadash, San Francisco; Temple Isaiah, Lafayette; Mendocino Coast Jewish Com-munity, Mendocino; and Kehilla Community Synagogue, Piedmont. Overall, more than 275 congregations, located in all 50 states, will display anti-torture banners during the month of June. RHR-NA is an interdenominational organization of rabbis dedicated to education, advocacy, prayer and action in support of human rights. correction In a May 30 story about the Menorah Park’s new courtyard, we incorrectly described the June 27 dedication as a public ceremony. It is an invitation-only event. J. Correspondent Also On J.
