Summer cooking camp for kids offered at Alameda temple Facebook Twitter Email SMS WhatsApp Share By J. Correspondent | June 3, 2011 Three one-week sessions of a new international cooking camp for kids will take place starting June 13 at Temple Israel, 3183 Mecartney Road, Alameda. “Cooking ’Round the World,” for children ages 7 to 11, focuses on the culinary styles and traditions of 15 countries, including Israel, India and Morocco. Campers can attend one-week sessions June 13-17, June 20-24 or Aug. 1-5 — or sign up for all three. “The idea came out of working with the kids throughout the year,” says Mindy Myers, Temple Israel religious school director, who will teach the classes. “They love cooking, they can’t wait for the days when we make matzah ball soup, and they really embrace the education of it, learning about the roots of food.” Attendees will learn how to make meals but also get a cultural, international education before and while they cook, Myers adds. The camp is $330 per week, with scholarships available. For details, visit www.cookingroundtheworld.com or call (510) 593-5285. J. Correspondent Also On J.
