Oakland Hadassah to celebrate 100th anniversary with song

Yiddish, Tin Pan Alley and Broadway songs made famous by Jewish American women will be featured in the one-woman show “Voices of Jewish Women in American Theater,” a fundraiser for the Oakland Ruach chapter of Hadassah. It takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at the Clubhouse of the Park Bellevue Tower, 565 Bellevue Ave., Oakland.

Highlighting 100 years of popular songs associated with Molly Picon, Sophie Tucker, Roberta Peters, Barbra Streisand and others, the performance will feature songs by soprano Alicia von Kugelgen, along with background on each singer and piano accompaniment.

There is a $100 a person suggested donation to honor Hadassah’s centennial and to help support the health, education and social programs that the international organization sponsors in the U.S. and Israel.
