A portrait of complexity. Photographer Stephen Shore, 66, a pioneer in the use of color photography, talks with Sandra Phillips, curator of photography at SFMOMA, about his new book, “From Galilee to the Negev.” The collection of photos illustrate the complexities and contradictions of Israel and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, and incorporates texts from a diverse group of writers, such as Israeli journalist Yossi Klein Halevi and Israeli-born chef and cookbook author Yotam Ottolenghi, who each selected a photograph as a springboard for sharing their thoughts on the subject. 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at JCCSF, 3200 California St., S.F. $25-$35. www.jccsf.org
