Several Israeli police officers and Palestinians were wounded in clashes that broke out inside the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem.

The officers entered the compound March 8 through the Old City’s Mughrabi Gate after Palestinians hurled stones in their direction. The officers dispersed the rioters using stun grenades, Army Radio reported.

On March 6, Jerusalem police closed the Temple Mount Plaza for the day after a group of Muslim women confronted Jewish women.

Police intervened and dispersed the women, who returned a short time later with male Muslim worshippers from the Al-Aksa mosque, who began to demonstrate against the police.

It was the second time the Temple Mount was closed to visitors last week. On March 3, Muslim women blocked and demonstrated against Jewish visitors, leading to its closure out of fear of violence. — jta
