Minimalist artist Sol LeWitt recently created a permanent wall drawing in the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco over a 12-day period.
LeWitt, whose work was featured in a 2000 retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, was selected and funded by Doris and Don Fisher, supporters of both the JCCSF and the artist’s work.
Lenore Naxon, director of the Friend Center for the Arts at the center, said JCC officials were “thrilled” about the gift. “It’s a beautiful use of light, line and color,” she added. “It fills the space, it illuminates the space, and we’re just delighted to have it.”
The installation covers the second-floor interior west wall. It is open to the public, free, during JCCSF operating hours.
