Contestants are now being accepted for the second annual Jewish American Idol Singing Contest, at the “To Life! Festival” in Palo Alto on Sept. 18.
Hopeful stars will perform songs made popular by Jewish composers, lyricists or artists, singing a cappella or with piano or CD accompaniment. The competition will be judged by three professional performing artists.
This year contestants will compete solo in three divisions grouped by age: youth (6 to 9), junior (10 to 12) and senior (13 to 17). Each of the three division finalists will then compete for the overall crown of Jewish American Idol.
The contest is presented by the National Jewish Theatre Festival, home of “The MeshugaNutcracker!” — the December Chanukah show at Great America’s Showtime Theater in Santa Clara.
All contestants will receive prizes, and finalists will win cash and prizes, as well as an opportunity to perform in “The MeshugaNutcracker!” The entry fee is $10.
To reserve a spot in the preliminary auditions, call the contestant hotline at (510) 315-6238. Contestants also need to obtain an application either by downloading the PDF at www.tolifefestival.org or visiting the Albert L. Schultz Jewish Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.
