Russia has a contract to supply Syria with fighter jets, according to a Russian newspaper.

Kommersant reported Sept. 3 that Russia has not yet delivered the eight MiG fighter jets to fulfill the $400 million to $500 million contract inked in 2007, quoting the head of Russia’s state-run United Aircraft Corp.

The newspaper wrote in May that Russia had discontinued its plans to sell the jets to Syria after pressure from Israel. Russian officials have denied the existence of such a contract. — jta
