Mae Brash, a native San Franciscan, died February 20, 2010, at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Brash, mother of Shirley Lee (Dan Lee), Grandmother of Debbie Michels (Grant Michels), Great Grandmother of Noah and Leo Michels. In her youth she danced and sang on stage, later became a teacher, and served as religious school principal at Temple B’nai Israel in Sacramento, where she lived for 30 years. A private service was held. Donations to Temple Emanu-El, 1010 University Ave, San Jose, 95126 are preferred.

Herbert Eisenbruch, a resident of Novato, California, died February 28, 2010 in Novato. He was 80 years of age.

Herbert was born in Huntington, New York on December 9, 1929. He served in the Army from March 1951 through February 1953. Herbert is survived by his wife of 35 years, Renee Eisenbruch, and his children, Glen Eisenbruch and Denise Libby and stepchildren, Howard Aaronson and Jonathan Aaronson. Herbert was a vice president at Moog Automotive, where he worked for 30+ years.

Betty Weiss died peacefully on February 27, 2010 at the age of 90. Born in Oakland, California to Max and Gertrude Aronson, Betty resided most of her life in San Francisco.  She was the beloved wife of the late Julian Weiss, and the loving mother of Gordon Weiss, M.D. (Denise Weiss) and Judith Bender (Jeffrey Bender, M.D.). Betty was the proud and adoring grandmother of Molly Pandya, Marisa Weiss, Rachel and Aaron Bender, and great grandmother of Miles Pandya.

After earning her BA at San Francisco State Teacher’s College, Betty was an elementary school teacher until she started her own family. Betty was an active volunteer throughout her life as a member of the Temple Emanuel Sisterhood, the California Pharmaceutical Wife’s Association, and the San Francisco Kaiser Hospital Volunteers. She was an avid sports fan and a liberal thinker with a passion for politics. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends for her generosity, her spirit, and her eternal optimism.

Funeral services were held this week at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma.

Elaine Weiss passed away peacefully on February 8, 2010 at the age of 82 in Thousand Oaks, CA, with her four daughters at her bedside. She was born in Oakland, CA on September 13, 1927. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Weiss, and her parents, Sam and Lillian Berman. Elaine enjoyed the arts and was gifted with many talents, among them, sewing, painting, decorating and organizing large social gatherings. She loved to travel and spent seven years living in Mexico with her husband Bill and two youngest daughters, and later went on several cruises with friends to many different countries. Elaine is survived by her sister, Barbara Cherry, and brother, Paul Berman, four daughters, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, several extended family members and many friends, all of whom will miss her. A memorial will be held to celebrate her life on March 7, 2010 at the Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville, CA.

Elizabeth Zackheim (4-4-20 to 2-26-10)

Elizabeth died peacefully, surrounded by her family. A student of Hunter College Model School and graduate of Cooper Union High School, New York City, she attended Long Beach State and UCLA. An art teacher for 25 years and a political activist, Elizabeth enjoyed her relationship with East Bay Women Artists and the League of Women Voters, where she was volunteer Director of their TCI Cable program, “League in Action.” Elizabeth exhibited at the Long Beach Museum of Art, Downey Museum of Art, Alta Bates Gallery, Danville Gallery, San Francisco Women Artists Gallery, and many more. She will be missed by her children, Michele Zackheim and Charlie Ramsberg, and Victoria Zackheim, by grandchildren Alisa and Eugene Law, Matthew and Erica Sosnick, Maggie Zackheim, and Ben and Robin Zackheim, by her great-grandchildren Jack Zackheim, and Sophia and Olivia Law, and by her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam Zackheim. A memorial service was held on Saturday, 27 February. The family requests that any donations be made to the League of Women Voters.
