Israel’s military sharply criticized former soldier Eden Aberjil for posting photos on Facebook of herself in uniform posing beside bound and blindfolded Palestinian prisoners.

Aberjil, who completed her military service two years ago, struck a defensive tone in a pair of radio interviews Aug. 17, claiming she did not do anything wrong and that similar things take place “every day” in the army. She said her actions were “thoughtless” but insisted she did not humiliate the detainees and was surprised the pictures were viewed as offensive.

In one photo, she sits beside a blindfolded Palestinian man. Another shows her smiling in front of three handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian men. An Israeli military spokesman called the pictures “shameless.” — ap
