Reports that a judge ruled the New York Mets’ ballpark must allow a kosher-food vendor to sell its products on Shabbat “mischaracterize the court’s verbal ruling,” the team said.

According to newspaper reports, a Brooklyn federal judge ruled that Kosher Sports should be allowed to sell its products on Friday nights and Saturdays at Citi Field.

Kosher Sports, the owner of three stands at Citi Field, claimed in a $1 million lawsuit filed in June in federal court that it lost $500,000 in profits because the team wouldn’t permit sales on Friday nights and Saturdays.

The New York Daily News reported that the Mets had said that selling kosher food on Shabbat was contradictory, that the stands cannot be kosher if they are operating during Shabbat. But in an e-mail, the Mets said that some newspaper articles “contain numerous errors.” — jta
