The first stage aims at helping prevent the extinction of the gray wolf, a subspecies found only on the Golan Heights. The current population stands at between 40 and 50 wolves.
Not everybody is thrilled at the prospect of the wolf population growing larger, however. Cattle breeders on the Golan Heights blame the predators for attacking hundreds of heads of cattle, sheep and goats a year.
