Stanley Ginsberg, co-author of “Inside the Jewish Bakery: Recipes and Memories from the Golden Age of Jewish Baking,” will appear at Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa on Feb. 19 for a lecture and book signing.
The book by Ginsberg and Norman Berg chronicles the history and traditions of Ashkenazi Jewish baking, from its origins in Eastern Europe to the U.S., where immigrant families opened neighborhood bakeries offering goods from challah to kichel cookies to black-and-white cookies. Ginsberg will join participants in the Shomrei Torah kitchen for a hands-on demonstration of bagel baking and challah braiding using recipes from the book.
The free event begins at 2 p.m. at the synagogue, 2600 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa. For information about the book, visit www.insidethejewishbakery.com. For more about the event, www.shomreitorah.org.
