A Toronto Islamic school under investigation after a complaint that it had been teaching its students that Jews are “treacherous” has apologized to the Jewish community.

The curriculum at the East End Madrassah, a Sunday school for Muslim children, instructed boys to exercise so they are “ready for jihad,” referred to “crafty” and “treacherous” Jews and Jewish “plots,” and contrasted Islam with “the Jews and the Nazis.”

Early this week, the school removed the controversial portions of its curriculum from its website. Later the same day, the website went offline. The school reportedly apologized to the Jewish community and pledged to revise its teaching materials after a careful review.

Canada’s Criminal Code makes it unlawful to publicly and “willfully” promote hatred against any identifiable group.
