A home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing physical comfort and emotional support, free from financial concerns.

Founded in 1981, this is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization providing temporary housing to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at the UC San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital. Qualifying families live more than 50 miles from UCSF, and many live at or below the low-income status as determined by UCSF. This location sustains nearly a 100 percent occupancy rate and can accommodate 240 people per night. Over the course of a year the house serves more than 3,000 families.

Works in conjunction with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, striving to provide family-centered care for patient families. Pediatric social workers refer all patient families. While children undergoing bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy, and radiation are our most common guests, the house also accommodates those facing other life-threatening childhood illness such as fetal surgery, transplants, and cardiac patients when space is available.

This is more than just a place to stay – it’s a home away from home, and a supportive community of people who are dedicated to providing a caring environment for the entire family while their child is undergoing treatment.
