Bay Area children in grades K-5 need urgent help to reach their full potential. Inspired by Jewish values of social justice, JCL mobilizes volunteer reading tutors from all backgrounds and supports parents and child- and family-serving organizations to help emerging and struggling readers in grades K-5. Many are English language learners. Sign up for a training session at www.jclread.org/volunteer. JCL provides initial training, continuing education and customized support from literacy experts. A caring presence and commitment can make all the difference by partnering with children striving to catch up from years of pandemic-related learning loss. Staff will match volunteers with one or more students at public schools, afterschool programs and nonprofits in San Francisco, Marin, the East Bay and on the Peninsula.
