Founded by Rabbi Michael Lerner in 1986 as a print journal, it is now a completely online publication. It describes itself as a “prophetic Jewish, interfaith and secular voice to heal and transform the world.” It brings together secular and religious thinkers from around the world to address social transformation, the environmental crisis, racism, antisemitism, economic justice, feminism, and prophetic empathy while drawing on the rich wisdom of Jewish experience and texts. It won the Best Religion Reporting Award from the Religion News Association and received the PEN Oakland Award. It has been frequently quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Haaretz.
