HARTFORD (JTA) — Connecticut’s attorney general is suing a Hartford funeral home for “illegal business practices” as well as conducting several burial procedures for observant Jews who were in violation of Jewish law.
In a lawsuit against Weinstein Mortuary, Inc., Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection alleges that the company deceived customers about burial procedures and overcharged them for services.
In another development, Florida police last week dug up an area near a Jewish cemetery whose operators have been accused of destroying coffins and bodies and then reselling burial plots.
According to Reuters, 20 agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and a worker from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s office spent the whole day digging at Menorah Gardens Cemetery in western Palm Beach County.
