Peru earthquake: Where to give

The 8.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Peru on Aug. 15 killed 503, injured 1,042 and left an estimated 100,00 people homeless, according to the most recent official statistics from Peru’s National Civil Defense Institute.

Jews throughout the world have been mobilizing to send aid to the stricken region. Israel sent a team of doctors earlier this week, and on Sunday, Aug. 19 the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem sent $20,000 to the Israeli Embassy in Lima to buy emergency provisions for victims of last week’s tremor. The American Jewish Committee is helping Israel pay for the medical teams with a $10,000 grant to ISrAID and has committed an addition $25,000 to the Asociación Judia del Perú.
