A final report from the Department of Defense’s Office of Inspector General backs the claims of David Tenenbaum, an Army engineer who said spying allegations against him were the result of religious discrimination.
The report acknowledges that Tenenbaum “was subjected to unusual and unwelcome scrutiny because of his faith and ethnic background.”
The case made headlines in 1997, when Tenenbaum allegedly admitted in a polygraph test that he had inadvertently shared classified documents with Israeli military officials. Tenenbaum said anti-Jewish epithets were shouted at him during the polygraph exam. Prosecutors never found enough evidence to charge him.
