Former Agriprocessors CEO Sholom Rubashkin, who is awaiting trial, can pray at the grave of the Lubavitcher rebbe before Rosh Hashanah, a judge ruled this week.
Rubashkin can be driven from Postville, Iowa, to New York City to pray at the grave of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson in Queens, even though he has been on supervised release from jail since February. He was expected to travel to New York on Sept. 16.
Agriprocessors closed following a major immigration raid by federal officials in May 2008. Rubashkin is scheduled to go on trial in October. He had been held in jail for three months after prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk to Israel. — jta
