President Barack Obama has appointed Jewish preservation advocate Emil Fish to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.
Fish, a Holocaust survivor, is the founder and president of the Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee, which works to preserve and restore historic Jewish sites in Bardejov, Slovakia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The commission is an independent agency charged with identifying and reporting cemeteries, monuments, and historic buildings in Eastern and Central Europe that are associated with the heritage of U.S. citizens. — jta
