In a June 30 court ruling, an immigration judge in San Diego tentatively granted asylum to Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a Hamas founder who became a spy for Israel. Yousef’s three-year legal effort to settle in the United States was nearly derailed with the March publication of “Son of Hamas,” which described his undercover work for Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security agency. The Department of Homeland Security had moved to deport Yousef, 32, on the basis of passages that it said indicated he aided Hamas, although he said all his contact with Hamas “was part of my job.” — jta & ap J.
