Two new polls show a majority of Americans have favorable views of Israel.
The Anti-Defamation League survey, which it commissions every two years, found that 49 percent of those polled have greater sympathy for Israel than for the Palestinians, a slight increase from the 45 percent figure reported in the previous survey. Only 18 percent favored the Palestinians.
A similar figure was reported in a separate survey commissioned by the pro-Israel media group the Israel Project. That survey found that 60 percent of respondents believed the United States should favor or strongly favor Israel in its conflict with the Palestinians. The figure was even
higher (67 percent) among the so-called “opinion elite,” a designation based on a respondent’s engagement with foreign policy issues, education and income.
Both surveys were released Nov. 10. — jta
