News U.S. Lawmakers ask GAO to look into Palestinian fund Facebook Twitter Email SMS WhatsApp Share By J. Correspondent | May 11, 2012 Three lawmakers are asking the General Accountability Office to investigate the scope of U.S. funding for the Palestine Investment Fund. Reps. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) on May 8 asked the GAO’s comptroller general to probe what funding was being given to the PIF and under what circumstances. Deutsch and Israel had co-signed a similar letter drafted last November. The signing of Lowey, the senior Democrat on the Foreign Operations subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, adds heft to the request. The lawmakers expressed concern over the lack of accountability and transparency within the PIF, as well as reports that Hamas has taken control of PIF assets in Gaza. — jta J.
