Staff | May 7, 2019 J. The Jewish News of Northern California has won nine Rockower Awards for Excellence in Jewish Journalism from the American Jewish Press Association, for work published in 2018. It is the greatest number of Rockowers that J. has ever received. Winning articles and essays were written by editor Sue Fishkoff, culture editor Laura Paull, food writer Alix Wall and three freelancers, and include breaking news, feature stories and personal essays — all highly competitive categories. Final details will be announced at the AJPA annual conference in St. Louis on June 25. “There has never been a more important time to report the news of our incredibly diverse Jewish community in the Bay Area,” said J. publisher Steve Gellman. “We are so proud of this recognition — it’s humbling to know that our work is also appreciated by our peers in journalism throughout the country.” The Rockower Awards are given annually by the AJPA. Founded in 1944, the professional organization represents Jewish newspapers, magazines, electronic media, social media and individual journalists. J. Staff Also On J.
