Jewish events to check out this San Francisco Pride weekend

Pull out your rainbow gear. As the Bay Area prepares for San Francisco’s 53rd Pride Parade on Sunday, June 25, the Jewish community is hosting events, including picnics and celebratory Shabbat services.

Friday, June 23

Trans March Shabbat Picnic

Gather with Congregation Sha’ar Zahav, San Francisco’s first queer synagogue, and Kehilla Community Synagogue for a Shabbat celebration and picnic before the 20th Annual San Francisco Trans March – one of the largest transgender Pride events in the world. Bring your own Shabbat picnic dinner to enjoy before the marchers leave at 6 p.m. from Dolores Park. Meet at Dolores Park, up the hill from Dolores and 19th streets, S.F. 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Free.

Pride Pre-Party and Shabbat

Congregation Sha’ar Zahav is also hosting a Pride Pre-Party and Shabbat service for those who would rather celebrate in shul. Attendees can cheer on marchers in the Trans*March and enjoy plenty of food and drink (alcoholic and non). Following the party, Rabbis Mychal Copeland and Reuben Zellman will lead a joyful Pride Shabbat Service. After services, a rainbow-themed oneg with post-service bites will close out the night. At Sha’ar Zahav, 290 Dolores St., S.F., and on Zoom. 7:30pm. Free. Zoom registration.
