The Jewish Federation of the East Bay isn’t just planning a big community trip to Israel next April. It also has scheduled a bevy of pre-trip events, speakers and films for Israel-bound travelers — and others.

Kicking things off will be three informational meetings and film screenings. The first will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Temple Isaiah in Lafayette and will feature the Israeli documentary “The Name My Mother Gave Me.”

The second will be 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley, and the third will be 7-9 p.m. Sept. 13 at Congregation Beth Emek in Pleasanton. A film screening is part of each.

Each session is free and will include details about the trip, scheduled for April 10-19, 2013. The trip includes many options regarding areas of interest, excursions and itineraries, including two add-on trips.

After the informational meetings in September, the federation will hold at least 11 additional pre-trip events from October through December, including full-length movies about Israel, guest speakers and lectures. The sessions, at five East Bay locations, are designed to give trip participants a taste of Israel before departing, but they are open to the community, and most are free.
