The president of a West Bank Palestinian university was tapped to form a new Palestinian Authority government and become prime minister.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas an-nounced the appointment of Rami Hamdallah, president of An-Najah Nat-ional University in Nablus, on June 2.
Hamdallah has three weeks to form a government.
He succeeds Salam Fayyad, who resigned in mid-April but remained to lead a caretaker government until a new government was formed. — jta
