Three Jewish teens involved in a mob attack on several Palestinian men in downtown Jerusalem were sentenced to prison.
The Jerusalem District Court on July 8 sentenced one of the assailants in the attack last August to eight months in prison. The others received shorter sentences for their parts in the Hatulot Square attack, which was described by eyewitnesses and police as a “lynch.”
The attack seriously injured Jamal Julani, then 17, of eastern Jerusalem. He remained on a respirator for several days afterward and did not retain any memory of the assault.
Hundreds of people watched the Aug. 16 assault but did not intervene, police said at the time. Some two dozen Jewish teens were involved, egged on by a female Jewish teen, police said. — jta
