The Union for Reform Judaism has awarded a grant to Temple Israel in Alameda to run “A Taste of Judaism,” a three-session course that serves as an introduction to Judaism.
Temple Israel was one of 14 congregations around the country to receive the grant. URJ will fund 60 percent or more of anticipated advertising costs plus provide a modest honorarium for the instructor.
A Taste of Judaism is designed for Jews and non-Jews, and congregations are supposed to promote it to the community at-large, rather than through synagogue newsletters and such. Offered since 1994, it is designed for those who would like to find out a little bit more about Judaism.
