The Israeli film “5 Broken Cameras” won the Emmy for best documentary at the international awards ceremony Nov. 25 in New York.

Co-directed by Palestinian Emad Burnat and Israeli Guy Davidi, “5 Broken Cameras” is based on footage shot by Burnat, a farmer and resident of the village of Bilin, who documented his son growing up alongside the village residents’ struggle against Israel’s separation barrier. It is structured in chapters around the destruction of each of Burnat’s cameras.

The film won the award for best Israeli documentary at the 2012 Jerusalem Film Festival and the World Cinema Documentary Directing Award at the Sundance film festival. It was nominated for a best documentary feature Oscar earlier this year. — ynetnews.com & ap
