Celebrations for Yom HaAtzmaut, or Israel Independence Day, took place all over the world on May 6.
In San Francisco, a noontime gathering in Justin Herman Plaza drew 750 people, according to organizers at the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation. Attendees listened to music from two bands, ate more than 300 falafel sandwiches from three food trucks and posed for selfies that made them appear as if they were at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, in Palo Alto, more than 2,500 people attended the Oshman Family JCC’s Yom HaAtzmaut celebration, according to OFJCC officials. The event, which was subtitled “Made in Israel,” highlighted the contributions Israel has made to the world, such as food, technology, products and innovation.
