In the spirit of the Jewish New Year, Brandeis Hillel Day School in San Francisco has donated more than $7,200 to Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger.

The funds came from the parent association’s annual honey sale, and from an anonymous parent who donated 50 cents for every dollar raised by the honey sale. The campuswide effort was “remarkable,” according to school officials, who noted that the donation will enable Mazon to provide 1,200 meals to those in need.

“What a pleasure to see our core values of chessed [kindness] and tikkun olam [service] in action,” said Sharon Weinberg, BHDS parent and co-chair of the Jewish Life committee. Jackie Shelton-Miller, the other co-chair and also a BHDS parent, founded the honey sale three years ago.
