Fifteen Jewish and education advocacy groups wrote to the presidents of more than 100 universities this week, warning them about a Students for Justice in Palestine internal document containing a strategy for disrupting pro-Israel student events.
Such conduct is subject to prosecution under state criminal laws, the letter noted. In 2010, 10 students were convicted for disrupting Israeli ambassador Michael Oren’s speech at U.C. Irvine.
The letter points out inclusions in a section of an SJP strategy document titled “With Regards to Tactics and Strategies Used to Counter Zionist Normalization.” Local recipients included the heads of U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Davis, Stanford and San Jose State.
The letter was signed by the Amcha Initiative, a Santa Cruz–based campus watchdog group, and agencies including the Simon Wiesenthal Center, the Zionist Organization of America and StandWithUs.
