Gary Kirschner, of Larkspur, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4. He was 86.

Gary was born in Berlin, Germany on Aug. 4, 1929. He spent the war years as a refugee in occupied Shanghai, China along with his family before eventually making his way to San Francisco where he met his future wife, Ethel, at the Jewish Community Center. They celebrated their 60-year wedding anniversary last year.

In the late 1960s Gary got into the paper business and along with his partner took over Arrow Paper. He remained in the industry until this year and loved calling on his customers, many becoming his friends. Gary and Ethel also founded the Sunsetters folk dance group, enjoyed world travel and excelled in many sports, even skydiving for the first time at the age of 80.

A kind, funny, generous man, with many friends, he had a real zest for life and lived it to the fullest.

Gary is survived by his wife, Ethel, and daughters Cindy Yacob (Moshe) and Nancy Bini (Alex). Grandchildren are Joe, Amanda, Katya, Rachel, Alex and Natalie.

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at Congregation Rodef Sholom, 170 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael, California at 11 a.m. on Dec. 20.

Irving Warner, M.D.

March 8, 1927–Dec. 2, 2015

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family. A caring physician and sharp diagnostician, he was respected by his colleagues and beloved by his patients. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Fern, loving father to James Warner and Carol Warner Greenspan (Benjamin), a proud grandfather to David Stewart Warner (Charity) and Samuel Warner Greenspan, and a new great-grandfather to Sophie Caroline Warner.

A private family memorial is being arranged.

To honor his memory, donations may be made to Friends of the Fromm Institute at University of San Francisco or California Pacific Medical Center.

Rebecca E. Wexler

My beautiful wife Rebecca E. Wexler passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2015, after her long struggle with metastatic breast cancer.

Becky was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sept. 24, 1957, the daughter of Henry Estreicher, a survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and Thea Salinger, who at age 12 escaped Nazi Germany with her sister on the Kindertransport to England. Both of Rebecca’s parents lost most of their family members to the perpetrators of the Holocaust. Becky’s family  moved to Redwood City, California, in 1959. She graduated with honors in Art History from U.C. Berkeley after living in Israel, working and studying on Kibbutz Be’erot Yizhak and an archeological dig in Tel Arad, in 1976. Becky and I met in 1983, when both of us were employed at the ALS Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto. In 1988, we married.

Becky was the loving mother of our three wonderful children Naomi, Nathan and Tamar. Her closest confidante was her beloved sister, Deborah, along with her brothers David and Mike. Becky found comfort in the companionship of her first cousins Anna, Bobby, Lilly and the two Jacks. Becky also found great joy in reconnecting with her cousin Bluma and second cousin Dov. Becky was the loving daughter-in-law, aunt and sister-in law of my parents and the families of my two brothers.

Becky would say she preferred to avoid crowds, but in reality she could talk to anyone. Everyone she met enjoyed her spunky humor and appreciated her intelligence, sensitivity and loving concern. She was famous for arguing her case. She made the best sweet matzo brei in town, a recipe passed down from her great-grandmother. Becky loved history, art, music and film. The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Mendelssohn, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello were her favorites. We all learned from her extensive knowledge and intense curiosity.

Becky was a passionate supporter of the State of Israel. She loved going for long walks, with her beloved Watson, at Fort Funston and the beaches in Half Moon Bay.

May her memory be a blessing.

Donations in Becky’s memory can be made to Friends of the Israel Defense Forces or

San Francisco Animal Control.

With Love, Jeff Wexler
