Nirkod: Israeli Folk Dancing in Santa Rosa
Join Robin Lowitz and friends in the art of Israeli dancing at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays at Congregation Shomrei Torah and at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays at Congregation Beth Ami. Contact either synagogue for more information.
Israeli dance has blossomed from its beginnings at Kibbutz Dahlia in 1944 to an around-the-world phenomenon, with worldwide dance camps and sessions featuring newly choreographed dances from Israel and elsewhere.
Learn about the history of Rikudei Am (Dances of the People) and dances from the early pioneer days, incorporating European and Middle Eastern styles of dance, from the debka to the tcherkassia, as well as circle, line and couple dances. Also current Israeli favorites incorporating salsa, Yemenite, Indian, Moroccan, hip-hop and jazz!
Sessions start with a warm-up and lesson, and move on to different choreographies from the vibrant Israeli dance scene. No dance background required. Children of all ages welcome, but those under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Contact the synagogue to register for security reasons. $8 donation suggested for non-members of the hosting synagogue.
