During the timed question-and-answer event, candidates will discuss issues of special interest to the Jewish community, which historically has had a strong voter turnout in Oakland. Questions will address youth and education, economic development, crime and safety, seniors and race relations.
All 11 candidates have confirmed attendance at the forum. They are Hugh Bassette, Leo Bazile, Ed Blakely, Jerry Brown, Ces Butner, Ignacio De La Fuente, Maria Harper, Mary King, Audrey Rice Oliver, Shannon Reeves and Hector Reyna.
“The conviction that leaders are accountable to the community is a deeply rooted Jewish tradition,” Weinreb says. “By coming to this forum, people can see and hear the candidates in the flesh and make better decisions about their qualifications than they can from a few select seconds on TV or radio.”
