The swastikas were drawn on the front doors of the Aroostook Hebrew Community synagogue. The words “Burn Jews” were also written with a felt-tip marker. No one has been arrested since the graffiti were discovered on Sept. 19.
And on Rosh Hashanah, vandals spray-painted orange swastikas and hate messages on 40 headstones in a predominantly Jewish cemetery in Iselin, N.J.
The incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.
The messages referred to killing Jews and blacks and made reference to “white power,” according to the New Jersey office of the Anti-Defamation League.
Cemetery officials removed the graffiti. No one has been arrested. The township plans to prosecute the incident under bias crimes statutes that call for extra penalties.
