The ultimate Jewish couple, my parents Nellie and Len Ambrose, moved to Rossmoor five years ago.
I was afraid they would be around too many old people. I wanted them to be closer to me. But in their wisdom they bought a place and soon became Mr. and Mrs. Rossmoor.
They have always done a lot of volunteer work but now they are immersed in it. Sometimes they pretend they’re not home so they can have a night off.
They go to services every Friday night and are active participants. They go to the Home for Jewish Parents in Oakland and put on birthday parties. My dad dances with all the women and makes a big fuss over all of them.
They have become very involved with B’nai B’rith after going on a couple of two-month volunteer trips to Israel.
They put on a Jewish deli night at Rossmoor once a year, cooking and preparing for weeks beforehand. It is always a huge success.
Mostly, they are wonderful caring people. Everyone loves them.
This has more meaning because my dad was not born Jewish. On their 25th wedding anniversary he converted to Judaism, and they were remarried under the chuppah by Rabbi Gordon Freeman of Congregation B’nai Shalom in Walnut Creek. They invited the entire community.
They give so much to the Jewish community. They are truly role models for not only myself but for all their friends and family.
I’m so very proud to be their daughter.
