Winemaker Eric Cohen started his “label series of compassion” with his Solidarity wine label three years ago. His Justice Grace Vineyards in Sonoma offered labels such as “We Are: Immigrants” and “We Are: Transgender,” with a percentage of proceeds from each bottle going to a related nonprofit. Now he has a new label/art project in time for the holidays. This time, it says “We Are: Homeless” — and all of the bottles are empty.
Proceeds from each $10 bottle purchased in San Francisco will be donated to the Coalition on Homelessness, while proceeds from East Bay purchases will go to BOSS, or Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency. “I think it’s a thoughtful, personal, gratefulness practice, or provocative vehicle to connect folks to gratitude this Thanksgiving and holiday season,” said Cohen.
