The facility, which will contain 155 rental units, is named in memory of philanthropist Rhoda H. Goldman. It is designed for frail older adults who need some help with daily living but not skilled nursing care.

The complex also will include a new headquarters for the S.F. based Jewish Family and Children’s Services — the JFCS Miriam Schultz Grunfeld Professional Building — which will triple the space available for the social-service agency. The offices are named in memory of community educator and JFCS board member Miriam Schultz Grunfeld.

More than $22 million of the complex’s $25 million fund-raising goal has been raised to date. Big gifts for the project were provided by Richard Goldman and the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, and by Janet and Albert Schultz.

The Rhoda Goldman Plaza is a project of Scott Street Senior Housing Inc., a partnership of JFCS and Mount Zion Health Fund. Project architect is Backen Arrigoni & Ross. The contractor is Cahill Contractors Inc. and the developer is Holliday Development Corp.

Fifty-eight “tie-downs,” which anchor the building at a depth of 55 feet, will keep the building in place during an earthquake.
