Milestones

Selma Hyams Poland celebrated her 100th birthday on March 2. She was joined that day at home in Alameda and on a Zoom call with family and friends from California, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii and Ramat Beit Shemesh, Israel. She also celebrated at a special Kiddush lunch at Chabad of Alameda on Shabbat.

Selma Hyams was born in New York on March 2, 1925, to Max Hyams and Sarah Levinson Hyams. She married Jacob Poland in 1948 and raised her two sons in Brooklyn. She enjoyed many years in New York and since 1998 in San Francisco and Alameda. Selma is the proud mother of Yehuda Ben-Israel (Rona Rothenberg) and Menachem Poland (Ann), grandmother of Sarah and David Ben-Israel (Jamie Rosen) and Jeremy (Svetlana Sobel), Alan and Eliot (Stacey) Poland, and great-grandmother of nine children between ages 2 and 17. Mazel tov! Until 120!
