San Francisco will get another Jewish deli come summer. Called Super Mensch, and located in the Marina District, the deli concept is from the team at Causwells, a farm-to-table spot in the Marina known widely for its Americana burger.

The restaurant will have classic Jewish deli dishes such as matzah ball soup, house-made pastrami, latkes, and challah French toast for brunch. And they’ll be making their own in-house rye bread and bagels.

Cocktails will be inspired by Jewish deli libations like the egg cream and Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray soda.

Adam Rosenblum, the chef behind the concept, grew up in the heavily Jewish D.C. suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland.

This is not his first time he’s launched a Jewish deli concept in the city. In 2022, he began serving pastrami sandwiches and other Jewish favorites out of his Little Red Window, an outdoor and takeout place that was adjacent to his Red Window Spanish restaurant in North Beach. (Little Red Window was always supposed to be a rotating concept, so the Jewish deli didn’t last very long.) When we interviewed him back then, he reminisced about visiting his family in New Jersey, and said the Little Red Window menu was inspired by visits to Jewish delis like Harold’s New York Deli in Edison, New Jersey. 

In 2022, Rosenblum said his goal was to serve the kind of Jewish deli that just “shuts you up. You eat it and you have no words and you’re just content eating and not talking to anyone else around you.”
