Milestones
Paul Kadden celebrated his 100th birthday on March 26 at his home in Rossmoor with family members. Born in Krefeld, Germany, Paul immigrated to the United States in the mid-1930s with his parents, Fred and Hilda Kadden, settling first in Philadelphia and then in San Francisco.
He graduated from Washington High School at age 16 as class valedictorian and from UC Berkeley at age 19 as a Phi Beta Kappa. He became a CPA and spent most of his career as vice president of Service Distributors Inc., a San Francisco-based company that placed coin-operated washers and dryers in public buildings throughout Northern California. Paul has also been an active volunteer with B’nai B’rith, San Francisco Humanities and many other organizations.
He married Shirley Hertzberg in 1953. The couple celebrated 67 years of marriage before she passed away in 2020. Paul and Shirley have three children, Bruce, Mark and Lori (pictured along with her father); six grandchildren, Alana Kadden Ballon, Micah Kadden, Daniel Kadden, Sara Epstein, Julia Epstein, and Hannah Epstein; and two great-grandchildren, Matan and Liav Ballon. Paul has been blessed with a third great-grandchild, Maya Bar Kadden, who arrived 10 days after his 100th birthday.
Weddings
Marc Korchin and Roni Silverberg were married in a civil ceremony on April 3, 2025. A religious ceremony is scheduled for June 1, Erev Shavuot, at Congregation Adath Israel in San Francisco.
Marc worked in retail, educational software and auto sales and currently teaches at Berkeley Adult School. After retiring from a career in commercial sales and marketing, Roni taught Judaica and Hebrew for 20 years in New Jersey, Florida and at Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco. She is better known there as “Morah Esther.” They live in Rossmoor’s active adult community in Walnut Creek.
