In September 1993, she applied for El Al’s pilot’s training course. Successful completion of this course generally guarantees the student a pilot’s job with the company. However, her application was rejected without explanation.

El Al managing director Rafi Harlev told Katzir the company only hires former air force pilots, and therefore would not even consider her application.
