In a complaint filed last year, prosecutors identified Palij, 79, as an armed guard at the SS Labor Camp Trawniki, a slave-labor camp for Jews in Poland.
Eli M. Rosenbaum, head of a special investigation unit for the Justice Department, alleged Palij “and his fellow ‘Trawniki men’ played instrumental roles in carrying out Adolf Hitler’s genocidal ambitions by rounding up, guarding and helping to murder Jews throughout Nazi-occupied Poland.”
Since 1979, the Justice Department’s investigations of former Nazis have resulted in 72 people being stripped of U.S. citizenship.
